We all watched with horror and anguish the terrible shooting that occurred on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, in Bayview Cemetery and on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Jersey City, resulting in the death of four precious lives, and the injury of several others. The Coptic Orthodox Church of St. Mark in Jersey City strongly condemns this senseless violence and offers sincere condolences to the families of those who were killed, and prayers for the healing of all those who are recovering from injuries and trauma.
We stand in solidarity with the men and women of the various law enforcements agencies that responded to the tragic events. Of special mention are the brave members of the Jersey City Police Department, who took the brunt of the effort to bring this situation under control. We salute the heroic sacrifice of Detective Joseph Seals whose life was taken trying to arrest those criminals, and the bravery of officers Raymond Sanchez and
Mariela Fernandez, who were injured trying to prevent further attacks.
We pray for the families of the innocent victims who were killed, and for the healing of the whole neighborhood from the traumatic effects of this attack. Our prayers are also offered for the leaders to continue in their efforts to keep our city safe. As a part of the Jersey City community, we always offer our prayers to God to outpour His peace on all of us, especially during this blessed Advent season.
